WATERLOO, Iowa. – Derek Sapp from Keokuk Iowa, leads at the Fusion Realtors Open at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo Iowa. Sapp posted 1886 (+286) for his eight games of qualifying, passing A squad leader Matt Smith (+222) by 64 pins.
Sapp has just recently been bowling more serious after a brief hiatus from the game.
Sapp explained his day by saying, "With this field, it's a great feeling to be leading. To have some pin distance at the top is nice considering tomorrow's format. I haven't bowled this good in awhile. I made the lanes look easy early in the block, but as I was looking around, I didn't see other guys scoring. I hope I can match up equally as well in the morning."
The tournament condition was a modified version of Kegel's Winding Road pattern which was 2.8 to 1. It took +5 to make it to Sunday's semi-finals which consist of 6 more games. All pins carry over concluding with a top 10 step-ladder format with the top 4 earning automatic berths in the finals. All bowlers on Sunday cash in the tournament.
The eventual champion of the tournament will take home $3,000 for their efforts. The event is being live-streamed in its entirety at InsideBowling.com.
