CAHOKIA, IL – Team Red Bird Lanes (Tony Yarbrough, Jerry Anderson, Tom Patton, and Larry Stepp) won the 2012 Team Extreme Shootout presented by InsideBowling.com this past Sunday.
Team Red Bird Lanes defeated the Top of the Morning team (Don Griffin, Brad Miller, Shea Bittenbender, and Geoffrey Young) in the final best of three baker match 2-0 (249-235 & 232-226). Tony Yarbrough solidified the win with a strike on the 11th shot in the baker match. He said on facebook "Oh the highs and lows of bowling. Had a career tournament low of 126 to miss cashing by 70 pins on sat. and was fortunate enough to throw the clinching shot to win the Team Extreme in Cahokia today. I want to thank my teammates Tom Patton, Jerry Anderson, and Larry (300) Stepp for bowling awesome all day. Congrats also to the team of Brad Miller, Geoffrey Young, Don Griffin, and Shea Bittenbender for an incredible display of bowling as the tournament leaders. And last but not least, Brunswick for making the worlds greatest equipment."
Red Bird Lanes found themselves in the championship match after defeating Bowlers World Pro Shop (Jodi Woessner, Aaron Hawkins, Jeff Carter and Tom Adcock) 2-1 in the semi-final match (248-197, 233-256, 266-207).
This year's tournament saw an increase in entries from 16 to 21. The format consists of four games on the house condition, and then four games on a modified condition. In years past, Cheetah was used, but this year Kegel's Route 66 pattern was chosen for the second set of four games.
Last year's champions Top of the Morning replaced Dean Richards (moved back to Washington) with an accomplished collegiate bowler in Geoffrey Young, but came up short in the baker championships after leading qualifying by 288 pins. Leading the way for Top of the Morning was Young and Miller who both averaged 248 along with Bittenbender's 243 and Griffin at 227.
Jerry Anderson and his staff at Red Bird Lanes did an excellent job putting on the event and providing extremely low lineage rates. Up next is the Holiday Doubles tournament at Red Bird which runs December 28th - 30th which will be live-streamed on InsideBowling.com's ibTV online channel and will offer a $7,000 top prize.
